One of my latest paintings takes you to Saint Hilaire du Touvet in southern France — a place that is truly a paradise for paragliders. It’s well known around the world, especially because of the famous Coupe Icare Festival, which every year draws thousands of visitors who enjoy spectacular flights, colorful costumes, and balloon launches.
The Scene
In this painting you see two paragliders floating over the valley. The region is defined by steep slopes where strong ridge lift forms. These updrafts are what make Saint Hilaire a dream spot for paragliders, allowing for long, graceful flights.
Technique and Materials
The painting measures 80 × 60 cm, and it is painted on canvas with a mix of acrylics and oils. A special feature is the use of real gold leaf, combined with a gold paint I mix myself — using different gold and silver tones so the painted gold blends well with the natural shine of the leaf.

Atmosphere and Background
In the background you’ll see the characteristic rock formations and mountain ridges that make Saint Hilaire du Touvet so unique. People who know the area also know that hot air balloons often rise into the sky there, appearing like floating spots of color. They add another layer to the scene and highlight the freedom and variety of flight in this special place.
